ISO certifications are issued by Certification Bodies accredited by NABCB (National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies) under the [BIS Act 2016 framework](https://www.bis.gov.in/) and IAF (International Accreditation Forum) MultiLateral Arrangement - ensuring global acceptance in 90+ IAF-member countries. ISO itself (the International Organization for Standardization, Geneva) develops the standards but does NOT issue certificates. The 16 ISO certifications offered by I-Pro are: ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management), ISO 27001:2013 (Information Security), ISO 22000:2018 (Food Safety Management), ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health & Safety), ISO 13485:2016 (Medical Devices QMS), ISO 37001:2016 (Anti-Bribery), ISO 39001:2012 (Road Traffic Safety), ISO 50001:2018 (Energy Management), ISO 20000-1:2018 (IT Service Management), ISO 2768-1:1989 (General Tolerances), ISO 21101:2014 (Adventure Tourism), ISO 16001 (WITHDRAWN 2009 - replaced by ISO 20121 Event Sustainability), and ISO 31000 (Risk Management - NOT certifiable, a guideline standard). I-Pro Solutions' ISO practice is led by IRCA-certified ISO Lead Auditors with NABCB-accredited CB partnerships. We handle the full certification cycle - gap analysis, Stage 1 + Stage 2 audit, certification, annual surveillance audits for 3 years, and 3-yearly re-certification. Critical accuracy flags: ISO 16001 is withdrawn (recommend 301 redirect to ISO 20121); ISO 31000 is not certifiable (recommend repositioning as Implementation & Training service, not Certification).

ISO certification is voluntary in India - there is no statute that mandates ISO across the board. However, certain regulators require ISO as a prerequisite for sector-specific licensing: NABL accreditation requires ISO 17025; FSSAI requires ISO 22000 for high-risk food categories; CDSCO requires ISO 13485 for medical device manufacturing; BIS requires ISO 9001 for some certification schemes. Government tenders (CPSE, municipal, defence) often mandate ISO 9001 as a pre-qualification criterion. Exporters may need ISO to qualify for EU/US supplier panels.
Standard ISO certification cycle (ISO 9001, 14001, 27001, 22000, 45001) typically takes 4-12 weeks: (1) Gap analysis (1-2 weeks); (2) Documentation + implementation (2-6 weeks depending on organisation size and existing systems); (3) Stage 1 documentation audit by CB (1-2 weeks); (4) Stage 2 on-site audit by CB (1-3 days on-site + 1-2 weeks for non-conformity closure); (5) Certification decision + certificate issue (1-2 weeks). For complex multi-site or sector-specific standards (ISO 13485, 22000, 27001), timeline extends to 12-24 weeks.
An ISO certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. During this period, the Certification Body conducts annual Surveillance Audits (typically 1-day on-site each year) to confirm continued conformity. A Re-certification Audit (full audit, equivalent to Stage 2) is conducted before expiry of the 3-year period, after which a new 3-year cycle begins. The certificate is issued by a NABCB-accredited Certification Body - not by ISO itself.
For a software/SaaS company, the recommended ISO stack is: (1) ISO 9001:2015 - Quality Management System (basic quality framework); (2) ISO 27001:2013 - Information Security Management System (essential for B2B and enterprise customers; addresses confidentiality, integrity, availability); (3) ISO 20000-1:2018 - IT Service Management (aligns with ITIL practices); (4) Optionally ISO 22301:2019 - Business Continuity Management. For fintech or healthtech, also consider ISO 27017 (cloud security), ISO 27018 (PII), and ISO 27701 (privacy).
ISO 9001:2015 certification cost in India depends on organisation size (number of employees), number of sites, and the Certification Body's brand. Indicative range for a small company (10-50 employees, single site): ₹40,000-₹80,000 (CB fee + audit fee + travel) + ₹15,000-₹30,000 (I-Pro professional fee for gap analysis + documentation + implementation support). Mid-size (50-250 employees, 1-3 sites): ₹80,000-₹2,50,000. Large (>250 employees, multi-site): ₹2,50,000-₹10,00,000+. Annual surveillance audit fee is typically 30-50% of initial certification fee.
