Navigating Corporate & IP Regulations in Chennai

Chennai holds a unique position in India's legal landscape: it houses both the Trade Marks Registry head office for South India (at Guindy) and the country's first dedicated High Court IP Division bench, notified by the Madras High Court on 11 October 2021. For founders and brand owners across Tamil Nadu, having local access to these granting and adjudicating authorities provides a strong strategic advantage in brand protection and IP enforcement. On the corporate side, Tamil Nadu has specific statutory procedures that require early attention. Company incorporations fall under RoC Chennai, with MoA and AoA stamp duties governed by Articles 6 and 39 of the Tamil Nadu Stamp Act 1959. Operating an office also requires registering with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) for a trade licence under Section 332 of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act 1919, alongside mandatory online registration on the state's tnlabour.nic.in portal under the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act 1947. Our Chennai team brings Company Secretaries, Chartered Accountants, and registered IP attorneys together under one roof. Whether you are filing an initial SPICe+ incorporation, attending a trademark hearing at Guindy, or managing annual GCC trade renewals, our specialists manage the entire workflow on transparent fixed fees.
